Vaca Vikings Baseball 14U 2026 put together a complete performance on both sides of the ball Sunday, cruising past Placer Grit (Mercure) 14U by a final score of 10-4.

Game Recap

Placer Grit (Mercure) 14U opened the scoring in the top of the first after an error allowed a run to cross the plate. The Vikings answered right back in the bottom half, breaking the game open with a big first inning that included a run on a defensive miscue, an RBI walk from Anthony Echevarria, and an RBI walk from Efrain Munguia Jr.

Vaca Vikings kept the pressure on in the second, adding two more runs—including a run driven in on a groundout by Davis Dorroh—to push the lead to 6-2.

The Vikings poured it on again in the bottom of the third, plating four runs. Julian Marquez grounded out to drive one in, Lucas Collins laced an RBI single down the right-field line, Dorroh drew another bases-loaded walk to score a run, and a Placer Grit error brought home yet another, extending the lead well out of reach.

Placer Grit added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, but it wasn't nearly enough to keep pace with the Vikings' offense.

Pitching

Lucas Collins started for the Vikings, working two innings and allowing zero hits and two runs, both unearned, while striking out two and walking six. Efrain Munguia Jr. came on in relief and was lights out, tossing 1⅔ scoreless innings without allowing a hit, striking out three and walking five.

Placer Grit starter Jacob Miller had a rough day on the mound, lasting two innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on zero hits, with one strikeout and nine walks.

At the Plate

Ryan Joynt, Julian Marquez, and Lucas Collins each collected a hit for the Vikings, while Davis Dorroh, Marquez, and Collins each drove in a run.

The Vikings' standout weapon was their plate discipline and speed on the bases. Vaca Vikings drew 12 walks as a team, led by Dorroh, Munguia Jr., and Cason Stephenson, who each drew two. The club also ran wild, swiping 12 stolen bases on the day, with Dorroh, Stephenson, and Echevarria each stealing multiple bags.

Vaca Vikings' defense held up its end as well, turning two double plays to help shut the door on any Placer Grit comeback bid.
